Investigation Conducted Following Complaint of Excessive Charges at Aadhaar Centre

Following a video that went viral on social media and a complaint received from the complainant through WhatsApp, the Aadhaar Centre operating on the premises of Bank of India, Pachrukhi Branch, in Pachrukhi block was inspected by the Block Development Officer (BDO), Pachrukhi, on September 30, 2026.

During the inspection, the Aadhaar Centre was found closed. The Branch Manager of Bank of India, Pachrukhi, stated that senior officials had been informed about the viral video and, following their instructions, the concerned Aadhaar Centre had been directed to remain closed until the completion of the investigation.

During the inspection, complainant Anurag Kumar, a resident of Pachrukhi, was present. He stated that the Aadhaar operator had demanded ₹500 for making corrections to his Aadhaar card, whereas the prescribed fee for Aadhaar correction is ₹125 per Aadhaar card.

Information was also obtained from the Aadhaar Centre operator over the phone. Based on the statements received from the complainant and the operator, the complaint appeared to be prima facie genuine.

The investigation report included the details of the Aadhaar Centre operator and a copy of the complaint, and recommended that the centre be kept closed.

The District Administration has made it clear that complaints regarding demands or collection of fees exceeding the prescribed charges for Aadhaar-related services will be taken seriously. If such complaints are found to be true after investigation, action will be taken as per the rules.

The district administration has appealed to the people of Siwan district to inform the concerned authorities if anyone demands more than the prescribed fee for Aadhaar-related services.
