Muzaffarpur: Shrimp production will now also be carried out at Baba Matsya Hatchery, located at Matalpur Koralaha Chaud in Bandra block of Muzaffarpur district. The initiative was formally launched on Thursday.
Spread across approximately 87 acres, the hatchery has already been involved in large-scale breeding and production of various fish species. Under the Bihar government’s Fisheries Department, a new initiative has now been launched for shrimp production and conservation.
For the first time, shrimp seed of the SKMP variety has been brought from Bhubaneswar for production at the hatchery. The initiative has initially been started in a half-acre pond.
Hatchery operator Shivraj Singh said that shrimp farming has been started in the pond’s freshwater. If the production proves successful, fish and shrimp seed will be supplied from here across the state.
He added that farmers can earn good profits at a low cost after receiving proper training in shrimp farming. The shrimp are expected to be ready for production in approximately three months, which could provide significant benefits to farmers.
Raman Jha, Dr. Jitendra, Mukesh Kumar, Manohar Rai, Upendra Kumar, Ramesh Kumar, and others were present on the occasion.
